Prabhupada Eating Prasadam3We at IHKM have made it a point to provide the homeless with spiritually sacrificed vegetarian food (Prasadam) and the Holy Name, at least 1-2 times a week.

In this way, they will at least be able to attain a human form of life again in the next life and make further spiritual progress.

So even the poorest and weakest of our society, whom nobody cares about anymore, get the grace of the Supreme Personality of Godhead – Sri Krishna, in the form of the Holy Name and delicious vegetarian food (Prasadam = food offered to God/Sri Krishna and blessed by Him).

Go and chant Hare Kṛṣṇa and give them food. They are hungry. Then it will be successful. Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, let them come and dance with you, and give them prasādam. They are hungry. It will be success. It is not difficult at all. That was Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s preaching to the mass of people. He would chant for four hours, and after finishing kīrtana, He’ll give them sumptuous food to eat. Caitanya Mahāprabhu was doing this. So you can do this. You collect money not for your eating but for distribution of prasādam. That is required. And if you do that, Kṛṣṇa will send you. (SP Lecture on BG 7.3 — Nairobi, October 29, 1975: )

Just like we are giving prasādam every week on Sunday, distributing prasādam. That is the bhakti-yoga. Bhakti-yoga means that sympathetic to persons who are not devotee of Kṛṣṇa. Devotee or not devotee, by eating kṛṣṇa-prasādam, he’ll gradually become devotee. As yesterday I explained that kṛṣṇa-bhakti begins from the tongue, sevonmukhe hi jihvādau svayam eva sphuraty adaḥ (Brs. 1.2.234). If you engage your tongue in the service of the Lord, then Lord manifests.  (SP Lecture on SB 3.25.27 — Bombay, November 27, 1974:)

Suppose in Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, what we are doing? We are giving Kṛṣṇa prasādam. We are distributing everyone, without any distinction. We don’t make any distinction between daridra-nārāyaṇa and a rich nārāyaṇa. We give prasādam to every nārāyaṇa. Of course, we do not think that everyone is Nārāyaṇa. That is not our philosophy. Nārāyaṇa is above. Nārāyaṇaḥ avyaktāt paraḥ. „Nārāyaṇa is not of this material world.“ (SP Lecture on BG 4.22 — Bombay, April 11, 1974:)

So if we want to serve poor people, that’s all right. That is a good business. You are merciful. That also we are doing when we distribute prasādam for everyone’s benefit, not for the daridra-nārāyaṇa or rich nārāyaṇa, everyone, Kṛṣṇa’s prasāda. So yadṛcchā-lābha, one who is advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, he will be happy simply having a little morsel of Kṛṣṇa’s prasādam. Yadṛcchā-lābha. Actually when we distribute prasāda, we distribute little, little halavā, everyone is satisfied and everyone is accepting because it is kṛṣṇa-prasādam. This consciousness…. They come here. There are many rich persons, also poor persons, they come here to take a little morsel of halavā. Not that he is hungry, but he is conscious that „If I take little kṛṣṇa-prasādam, I will be benefited.“ (SP Lecture on BG 4.22 — Bombay, April 11, 1974:)

One hundred and two centers, average hundred men—how many? Hundred into hundred? Hm. So ten thousand men we are feeding daily, apart from distribution to others. So Kṛṣṇa is sending them. So you can attain. Everything belongs to Kṛṣṇa. He’ll give you supply. You have to attempt only. So chant Hare Kṛṣṇa and distribute prasādam, your movement will be success.
