On Saturday, August 16, 2025, we will celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami at our temple, in 63533 Mainhausen. Everyone is warmly invited! :-)
This auspicious day marks the appearance of Lord Sri Krishna to bless the world with true spiritual love, joy, and eternal bliss.
In addition to ecstatic mantra chanting (kīrtan) and a delicious feast (prasādam) starting at midnight, there will be a reading about the auspicious birth of Sri Krishna. Of course, children and guests who simply cannot fast for so long are welcome to accept the delicious vegetarian prasadam earlier.
The highlight of the festivities will be the abhisheka ceremony (bathing ceremony) of the deities. In this ceremony, the image of Sri Krishna is poured over with various offerings such as milk, yogurt, fruit juices, honey, and water, while mantras and chants are recited.

Program: From approximately 6 p.m., Abhisheka: Bathing ceremony of the Deities
Kīrtana: Communal chanting of sacred mantras throughout the entire time
Discourse on Krishna Lila (The Birth of Sri Krishna) from approximately 9 p.m. until midnight.
Overnight stay: Anyone who wishes is welcome to stay overnight in our temple and participate in Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa Puja the very next day!
Prasādam: Festive vegetarian prasādam meal starting at midnight! Or earlier at any time for guests who cannot fast that long!
In 2025, Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on Saturday, August 16, 2025. The Ashtami Tithi (eighth lunar day) of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Bhadrapada (August) marks this sacred day. Devotees observe midnight puja, as Lord Krishna is believed to have been born at midnight in the holy city of Mathura.
Janmashtami is the celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the supreme personality of Godhead. This festival is observed with great devotion and joy across India and by devotee communities around the world. Temples are beautifully decorated, bhajans (devotional songs) are sung, fasts are observed, and midnight artis fill the air with divine energy.

Sri Krishna’s parents were Vasudeva and Devaki. Devaki’s brother, the tyrant and king Kamsa, learned through a prophecy that Devaki’s eighth child would overthrow him, so he decided to kill all of her children as a precaution. He first had her first six children killed. When Krishna was born as Devaki’s eighth child, the prison doors miraculously opened, and Vasudeva was able to bring Krishna to safety—across the Yamuna River—to his foster parents Nanda and Yashoda in Gokula. There Krishna grew up as a cowherd boy.

Over 5,000 years ago, Krishna came to Mathura/ Vrindavan to protect the devotees, destroy the demons, and spread the eternal message of love and devotion. Thus, Krishna’s birth also represents the victory of good over evil. This day falls on the eighth night (Aṣṭamī) after the full moon in the month of Śrāvaṇa/Bhādrapada (August/September).

Krishna means “the all-attractive one.” He is the supreme cause of all causes, the supreme personality of the entire material creation, as well as the entire infinite spiritually manifested worlds. On this day, devotees celebrate his wonderful pastimes (lilas), his presence in their lives, and take time to remember their eternal loving relationship with him and his presence in all our hearts.
Devotees fast completely throughout the day and break their fast at midnight with a delicious vegetarian spiritual feast (prasadam).
