Janmāṣṭamī is the auspicious, holy day on which Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appeared on earth.
In the year 2026, Śrī Kṛṣṇa Janmāṣṭamī will be celebrated on Friday, September 4, 2026.
This day falls on the eighth night (Aṣṭamī) after the full moon (Kṛṣṇa Pakṣa) in the month of Śrāvaṇa/Bhādrapada (August/September). Devotees observe midnight pūjā, as Lord Kṛṣṇa is believed to have been born at midnight in the holy city of Mathurā.
Janmāṣṭamī is the celebration of Lord Krsna’s birth, the eighth incarnation of Lord Viṣṇu, the supreme personality of Godhead. This festival is observed with great devotion and joy across India and by devotee communities around the world. Temples are beautifully decorated, bhajans (devotional songs) are sung, fasts are observed, and midnight ārati fill the air with divine energy.
Devotees fast completely throughout the day and break their fast at midnight with a delicious vegetarian prasādam feast.

On Friday, September 4, 2026, we will celebrate Śrī Kṛṣṇa Janmāṣṭamī at our temple, in 63533 Mainhausen-Mainflingen. Everyone is warmly invited! :-)

We particularly want to celebrate this auspicious day as Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa has appeared here to bless the entire world with true spiritual love, joy and eternal bliss.
We want to glorify the holy name of the Lord by ecstatic mantra chanting (kīrtan) and hear about the deeds and pastimes at the birth of the Lord, as well as explore the philosophical depths of Vedic literature. At midnight there is a delicious feast with a variety of preparations that make love go through the stomach. Of course, children and guests who do not want to fast for such a long time can also accept the delicious vegetarian prasādam earlier.
The highlight of the festivities will be the Abhiṣeka (bathing) ceremony of the Deities. In this ceremony, the Deity of Kṛṣṇa is showered with various offerings such as milk, yogurt, fruit juices, honey and water. In addition, a subtle sound shower takes place using mantras and instruments of the devotees, which cleanses the minds of everyone involved.

Kīrtana: From 4 p.m. until the lecture (singing of sacred mantras together).
Kṛṣṇa-Kathā Lecture of Kṛṣṇa Līlā (The Birth of Śrī Kṛṣṇa) from around 9 p.m. to midnight.
Accommodation: Overnight stay — if you want, you can stay with us in the temple and take part in the Vyāsa Pūjā offering for Śrīla Prabhupada, the very next day!
Prasādam: Festive Vegetarian Prasādam Meal from midnight! Or earlier at any time for guests who cannot fast for that long!

Śrī Krsna’s parents were Vāsudeva and Devakī. Devakī’s brother, the tyrant and king Kaṁsa, learned through a prophecy that Devakī’s eighth child would overthrow him, so he decided to kill all of her children as a precaution. He first had her first six children killed. When Kṛṣṇa was born as Devakī’s eighth child, the prison doors miraculously opened, and Vāsudeva was able to bring Kṛṣṇa to safety—across the Yamunā River—to his foster parents Nanda and Yaśodā in Gokula. There Kṛṣṇa grew up as a cowherd boy.

Over 5,000 years ago, Kṛṣṇa came to Mathurā/ Vṛndāvan to protect the devotees, destroy the demons, and spread the eternal message of love and devotion. Thus, Kṛṣṇa’s birth also represents the victory of good over evil.

Kṛṣṇa means “the all-attractive one.” He is the supreme cause of all causes, the supreme personality of the entire material creation, as well as the entire infinite spiritually manifested worlds. On this day, devotees celebrate his wonderful pastimes (lila’s), his presence in their lives, and take time to remember their eternal loving relationship with him and his presence in all our hearts.
